How to find the Starting Point
How to find the way back from the Finishing Point

The name 'Gwangot' comes the 'got(cape) on the way to Jocheon-pogu(port).' The wave here is fierce enough to flip a boat. It is the closest point to the southern tip of the Korean peninsula in Haenam.

Neobeunsoongee April 3 Memorial Hall

The setting for Mr. Hyun, Giyoung 's novel , Bukchon-ri, was the most damaged village during the April 3rd movement. On January 17 1949, the army put fire on most of the houses and the villagers were massacred brutally outside the village. The memorial hall keeps this memory. Men and women of all ages and even the youngest children were sacrificed. In front of the building are the small graves of the babies killed then. Too many people died at once, and there was no time to dig a grave for them. The painful memories are evident. Of 323 families in Bukchon-ri, 479 of the 207 families were sacrificed.

The deserted island in the Bukchon-ri ocean shows one of the most beautiful sunsets. The island was named after its shape looking alike a seal. With so many types fishes found in the area, it is a fishermen's favorite spot. Bukchon residents went to Daryo-do (island) during the April 3 incident to hide a punitive force.

Beollujin Dongsan(mound)

It is called Beollujin Dongsan(mound), meaning the wide-open center, as it separates into two villages. The place is full of trees. There is a wide-open space formed after lava cooled, and it is a beautiful area where beautiful paths the old days still remain.

It is a petite oreum(small extinct volcano) next to Hamdeok Beach. It has been considered the mountain of virtue for a long time. The oreum resembles a fat water buffalo crawling on to the land. On the north peak is a smoke signal station called Seosan-mang exchanging contacts with Wondan-mang of Samyang and Yipsan-mang of Gimnyeong. At the foot of a mountain in the east are 21 caves dug by Japanese armies. Jeju residents dug Seowoo-bong(peak) walkway solely with scythes and hoes, in two years 2003.

Sinheung-ri Bangsa-tap(tower)

There are two pagodas in the sandy beach of Sinheung-ri. The pagoda is a stone tower aimed to prevent evil spirits entering the village. One pagoda near Gotburi is 'Odari-top(tower)' and the one inside is 'Sengyi-top(tower).' At high tides, the bottom part of the pagodas sinks in the water. They are Jeju's Monument #8-10 and #8-11.

Sinheung-ri White Sand Beach

It is the wide sandy beach sitting inside the Sinheung-ri village. The watercolor is transparent and even mysterious during the high tide while wide open sand opens up at low tide making it exceptional scenery. The water level is not too high most of the time and is just good enough for light swims, but it goes above an adult height at hide tides.

Hamdeok Seowoo-bong(peak) Beach

It is a beautiful beach, and fine white sands stretch afar to the ocean. It is known for the watercolor. There also are camp sites and convenience facilities.

Jedoli Discharge Monument

Jedol is an Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin that was captured illegally in May 2009 in Jeju Ocean. He had to perform in shows and was released in July 2013. A memorial tower stands near Gimnyeong-hang(harbor), near the finishing point of route 19. Jedol's release is the first case in Asia, raising awareness of 'animal rights' and 'animal welfare' in Korea and reexamining the relationship between animals and people and nature and people.
